STEP1 Talk about what you wanted to become when you were a child.

When I was young, I dreamed of becoming a scientist. I came to have that dream after reading biographies of famous scientists. I dreamed of studying hard and coming up with important discoveries or inventions. When I wrote about my future dreams, I always wrote about becoming a scientist. Many kids of my age had similar dreams.

STEP2  Talk about typical future dreams of children these days.

When I was young, kids mostly fantasized about becoming scientists or doctors. Then, Korea had an economic crisis in the 90s. More kids wanted stable jobs, like teachers, police officers and civil servants. Many parents want their kids to have specialized jobs, like lawyers. Recently, as kid experience various media, their dreams have become diversified. Today's kids often want to become YouTubers or chefs. The preference for stable jobs is still around, but there is more variety.

A: Do you like your current job? What did you want to become when you were a child?

B: I really wanted to be a reporter. I still think about it sometimes.

A: It 's never too late. Why don't you take some classes and look for a new job?

B: I'm too scared to quit. What if I can't get hired? I'm not single anymore.
