Drunk driving is very dangerous, and should never be done. Driving drunk puts the driver in danger, and it is also dangerous to others. Despite this, there are always people who drive under the influence. They are caught often in police crackdowns. Accidents caused by drunk driving continue to happen. There has to be greater awareness that drunk driving is never okay.

Following the death of the late Yoon Chang-ho, who was killed by a drunk driver in 2018, public demand has grown for stiffer penalties on drunk driving. DUI penalties have been beefed up. Causing a death while driving drunk can result in a sentence of at least three years up to a life sentence. Starting in June of 2019, repeat offenders will have their license revoked automatically. The standard for blood alcohol content has also been strengthened from 0.05% to 0.03%.
